Sitka Tribe of Alaska – NALEMP Site Characterization for Clam and Abalone Islands
Chilkat prepared site characterization workplans, performed fieldwork and developed Site Activity Reports for these remote island DoD sites. Significant concern was raised by previous investigations suggesting underground storage tanks were present. Chilkat and the Tribe dug up the standpipes determining they were simply posts used to support wires. Other DoD remains were documented but no environmental concerns were identified. Findings encouraged the Tribe to focus available resources on impacts that pose a threat to human health.
