Haines Borough Former Primary and Elementary Schools UST Characterizations

 

The former Haines School experienced chronic fuels leaks at the primary school and overfill spills at the elementary school.  Prior to demolition of the primary school other environmental contractors carried out multiple cleanup actions, each of three efforts removing incremental amounts of contaminated soil from adjacent and beneath the building. Chilkat Environmental was selected to characterize the extent of contamination at these sites. The workplan was submitted in June, approved in July and completed in August.  Characterization was successful at advancing decision-making determining cleanup of elementary school site and groundwater investigation for primary school site.  Chilkat Environmental also coordinated proper containment and disposal of contaminated soil excavated from the primary school by other contractors and stored on borough property.
