Chilkat Environmental staff have been working with Eklutna since 1999.  Elijah lived in the village for a couple years while he worked for the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society and has worked there for  over 14 years with Land and Environmental Director, Marc Lamoreaux (907-688 -6020).  Partnership between Great Land Trust, Eklutna Inc. and the Tribe has been tremendously successful resulting in 4,789 acres of conservation easement for Knik Islands, 832 acres at Eklutna estuary and 523 acres at Fire Creek Estuary.  Chilkat developed the third ever EPA Tribal Wetlands Program Plan in Alaska to plan further conservation activities for their over 5,000 acres of wetland land holdings. Wetland conservation is encouraged by the 2008 EPA Wetlands Rule but the Tribe’s primary goal has been to preserve ecology that supports hunting and fishing resources in their traditional use areas
